Run in Sheds & Shedrow Horse Barns

Guidelines for Properly Built Portable Horse Run In Sheds and Shedrow Barns

If you are in the market for a run in shed or a portable equine barn, I hope, the information and guidelines provided below will be of benefit not only to you, but also to your horses or other animals you are acquiring the shelter for. By following these recommendations you will make a wise investment in a properly built Equine Shed to last you for many years.

What to look for in a properly built Run In Shed or a Portable Horse Barn:

1. Base Of The Barn - To protect from rotting and termites, it is essential that your Horse Shed is built on top of pressure treated base in order to withstand many years of ground contact. The treatment of timbers used in the shed base must be specifically for ground contact. Recommended size of sill plates is 6"x6" and recommended treatment of sill plates is either ACQ .40 or any other treatment made for ground contact.

2. Wall Framing - Solid & well built wall frame is very important for the longevity of your horse barn or shed. Recommended materials to be used in wall construction is either Oak or Yellow Pine. When using green oak, keep in mind that frame built with green oak will shrink after several years and will not be as tight as in a newly constructed barn. Cedar is another choice, but it is an expensive choice to use for framing of your barn.

3. Siding - Two mostly used barn sidings are either metal or wood. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. In our guidelines we recommend the use of wooden siding verses metal due to the following:
Barn with wood siding generally stays several degrees cooler during summer heat & stays several degrees warmer during the winter. Wood siding is more dent resistant compared to metal siding and more look appealing. The only disadvantage of wood siding is its periodic maintenance, such as staining or applying wood sealer for better wood protection.

4. Kickboards - Either 1x8 rough-cut oak or 2x8 or 2x6 T&G yellow pine kickboards may be used inside the stalls. Make sure all the kickboards are at least 4' high.

5. Barn Roof - The roof must be engineered and built to withstand the snow load or wind rating for the area you live in. For run in sheds up to 12' in depth, 2x4 rafters set at 16" on centers are sufficient in most cases. If you live in northern states, 2x6 rafters are recommended to withstand heavier snow loads. 2x6 or even 2x8 rafters recommended on wider run in sheds and barns.

6. Roofing - A good quality roofing material properly applied, is also essential for longevity of your horse barn. Two different materials widely used are metal and asphalt shingles. From our prospective, asphalt shingles are a better choice for your horse shed, since metal is generally noisier during rain and might scare off some horses.
Metal will also keep your barn hotter during summer and cooler during winter compared to asphalt shingles. But metal roof might be a good choice for very windy or hurricane prone areas. If building or purchasing a barn with metal roof, make sure to use double bubble insulation (also known as condensation barrier) under metal. When choosing a barn with asphalt shingles, whenever possible pick shingles with a higher rated warranty. Shingles with higher rated warranty such as 30 year architectural shingles are thicker, heavier, look nicer and usually have at least 20 mph. higher wind rating, meaning they will withstand stronger winds compared to standard 25 year 3-tab asphalt shingles. Whatever shingles you choose, make sure they are applied over felt paper underlayment as per shingle manufacturer's recommendations.

7. Windows - Whenever possible choose your portable horse barn with bigger windows. Bigger windows will provide more light inside the stalls which is not only better for you, but also for your horses. Make sure windows can open to provide ventilation and make sure all stalls windows are protected by heavy duty window grills on inside of stall.

8. Dutch Doors - All of the Dutch doors must be built sturdy enough to withstand powerful kicks of horses. All the hardware such as door hinges, latches and chew bars (cribbing angles) must be heavy duty and preferably powder coated. One important thing to consider, is the length of door hinges. The longer hinges will better protect the doors from sagging. We recommend 20" heavy duty barn hinges for Dutch doors. Smaller hinges may be used on regular entrance doors.

Problems With Black Mold

Ensure You Insure

With us all recovering from sun stroke and burnt skin (!) the summer months have come to a close, and the wind and wetness of autumn are pretty much already here. With devastating floods already hitting the United Kingdom we have heard all sorts of horror stories ranging from sludge and mud taking over living rooms and kitchens throughout the country to of dogs and children being sucked and pulled along by the currents created by the excess rainwater.

If you are in an area that has been given a flood warning it is imperative that you take the warning seriously. It is an unfortunate reality that more of us than ever are being made victim of natural accidents. It is important that we make sure that our home and belongings are protected against damages should the worse happen.

There are many different types of home insurance offered by many companies, so it very much depends on your personal situation when it comes to finding the best policy to suit you and your family's home. You should check the fine print of your policy, because although most companies do cover this aspect you do not want to be left to foot the bill!

Most of us do not realise that 90% of the damage caused by flooding is by the first inch of flood water. This of course soaks into your carpets, damages woodwork and rots the bottom of furniture leaving it unusable. You should be sure you check records on areas you are looking to move into too - the home insurance companies are very jumpy when it comes to floods at the moment and are even threatening to take away flood cover unless the government put more money and effort into preventing floods and damage.

Due to this annoyance, you should expect to have to pay more to renew your insurance than last time if your home is in a "risk area". Lets just hope the British weather is kinder to us this year.

Most of us have home insurance but it is import to check that your insurance policy covers you for flooding. Home insurance can be found cheaply if you do your homework

Different Aspects of Good Porch Designing

A porch can bring about a great and welcome change in the over-all look and feel of the house, apart from being very utilitarian and trendy. So, when constructing the deck you need to be very careful about the size of the porch, the roofing design, the size of the porch columns, porch wall designs, decking of the porch etc. Let us begin by taking a look at the ideal size for the porch.

The fact is that the size of the porch should be dependent on the size of the house. Many a time, people do not take this significant factor into account and you get to see incongruous looking porches that do not match the scale of the house. What you need to remember is that in a tiny house, a tiny porch fits perfectly whereas in a large house, a small porch would appear extremely weird. So, for such a house a porch of ample proportions would look apt.

This also applies to the roofing design of the porch. The porch roof should always complement the main roof of the house. This means that if the main roof of your house is sloping then a porch which also has a sloping roof at the same angle will enhance the aesthetic appeal of your house and endow it with grace and charm.

Even when it comes to the size and design of the porch columns, you cannot regard it in isolation but have to take into consideration the particular style of the house. So, if the house has a grand and ornate look, then the columns should also match this look and present an imposing appearance. Similarly, if your house looks very trendy, then the columns should also present a modern and contemporary look.

Another feature that you can incorporate to the porch is high porch walls that come up to the first floor window sill. This will give a very striking look to the entire house and you can also have more privacy in your porch. Thus, porch wall designs are something that you can experiment with on the basis of your individual taste.

Last but not the least; you need to look into the aspect of decking for the porch. Do make sure that the wood you choose for the porch deck can withstand problems like decay, rot and pests. In this respect, composite material is a great option for the deck. Applying a superior finish for the porch deck can also contribute a lot to the look of your deck. Generally, strong polyurethane based finishes impart a magnificent look to the deck, so do consider these when pondering on the right finish for the deck.

Modular Building Technologies Facilitate Multi-Family Construction Projects

Commercial multi-family builders save time, save money, and increase quality when they choose modular building technology. Commercial builders not familiar with modular construction first need to learn about and understand the numerous benefits realized by using systems-built modular construction.

Modular buildings are constructed using conventional building practices and materials with one significant difference. The construction takes place inside a climate controlled factory where production staff turns out mostly complete modules. While the modules get shipped to the job site via truck, there is there is nothing temporary about a hotel, student housing apartment complex, or an assisted living facility built with modular construction. Once the modules arrive on site, they are set and finished.

Examples of Commercial Multi-Family Projects

DeLuxe Building Systems, a Pennsylvania based modular builder, maintains an up-to-date portfolio that showcases what's possible with modular. Here are some samples.

  • The Sandals Royal Bahamian Hotel in Nassau, Bahamas is a six story, 210 unit hotel comprising 181,173 square feet.
  • The Muhlenberg College features a modular student housing complex with 60 units across four stories and 25, 920 square feet.
  • The Bellmawr senior living facility in Bellmawr, NJ is a three story, 130 unit modular apartment project that includes 114, 919 square feet.

Looks a lot like any other form of construction, doesn't it? You might also be surprised to learn that some of those projects include steel framing. Modular construction using steel can be used for buildings up to 12 stories.

Modular Construction Benefits

Now that we have a better understanding of what modular building technology can achieve, we can focus on some of the benefits of building with modular. Save time and meet your deadlines. Modular construction happens year round in a climate controlled environment regardless of weather conditions. Modular construction may cut construction time up to 50% compared to traditional construction practices.

Save money. Shorter construction times mean projects recognize cash flow sooner and lessen the duration of construction loans. Since most of the building materials are stored in an off-site factory, there will be less work site theft. And depending on the type of project, modules arrive at the job site up to 85% complete.

Increase quality. When protected by a factory roof, raw materials are protected from common problems, such as rot and warp. With modular construction, quality is built into each project, not inspected in, and each step of the modular construction process incorporates consistent building practices.

Before you start that next hotel, student housing, apartment complex, housing development, or retirement facility, consider modular construction. You might be surprised.

Test your modular construction knowledge by taking our short online quiz.

Slate & Tile Roofing - The Facts!

Cement & Clay Tile Roofing:

Available in many different shapes and colors, manufactured from clay or concrete, roofing tiles are increasing in popularity as a finished roofing material throughout North America. They bring a rich, elegant and beautiful aesthetic quality to any property and definitely increase the value of any home. More and more builders are using roofing tiles on new construction to enhance and improve the marketability of the property. A tile roof gives instant credibility to the feeling of quality construction and produces an excellent property eye appeal.

The flexibility and creativity in the manufacturing process as lead to a variety of tile shapes textures, and sizes. Some the more popular designs being, rounded, shingle, shake and slate. The manufacturing processes have been so well refined that in may cases tile roofing does not look like tile at all. Spanish mission, rounded, style tiles are very popular in the southern US states of Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California.

Tile Roofing Drawbacks:

Similar to slate tiles, the primary drawback to concrete or clay tiles are their weight. It is important to verify, with your contractor or a consulting engineer, that the rafters and trusses used to form your roof have the inherent strength to support the load created by clay or concrete tiles. The cost of installing a concrete or clay tile roof is not unlike that of wood shingles. However, tiles have a life expectancy of more than 50 years, are noncombustible, and do not require a lot of maintenance.

When installing any roof the price of the material and installation has to be taken in context with other factors including ongoing maintenance costs, warranty and the value added to the property should you wish to sell. Because it is noncombustible, the concrete or clay tile itself has a Class A fire rating, which provides you and your family with a level of safety that is difficult to put a dollar value to. Some insurance companies will reduce the premium for fire insurance to homes that have clay or concrete tiles installed on their roofs. The installation of concrete or clay tiles should reduce heating and cooling costs, as they are very energy efficient.

Slate Tile:

What is more beautiful or aesthetically pleasing than a natural slate roof? A slate roof is one of the most durable roofing materials available. When properly installed, and maintained, a slate roof will last for hundred's of years. The specific life of a slate roof is dependent upon a lot of variables and it is wise to discuss your requirements with a local professional installer.

Life Variables:

  • type and origin of the slate
  • roof style
  • climate

Another consideration is the weight of slate tile. Many roofs are not structurally designed to handle the load represented by a slate tile installation. Before committing to the installation of a slate roof, ensure that your rafters and/or trusses have been designed and installed to handle the additional weight.

Considered to be the most stylish and sophisticated roofing materials, slate comes in a wide range of colors, textures and quality levels. Because a slate roof installation requires skilled, professional and experienced roofers (actually an expert slate installer is not a roofer, they are stone masons - craftsmen), slate is not an inexpensive roof covering. In addition, because of the products weight special handling equipment is required and freight charges will add to the cost. You can expect to pay in the order of $100 per square foot or a $1,000 per roofing square.

Because of the high investment made in installing a slate roof, they should be inspected yearly and after major storms. Most companies that supply and install slate roofs offer annual service contracts, which include inspections at regular intervals. If properly maintained and cared for slate roofs have an indefinite life.

If you are considering replacing your current roof with a new slate installation, check the reputation of the contractor you are using and make sure that the slate they will install comes from a reputable high quality quarry. The capabilities of the contractor and the quality of the slate will be the biggest factors in determining the longevity of the roof.

Planning and knowledge are the keys to any successful home improvement, remodel or landscaping project!

Getting Credit Repair Help

When you are under pressure to obtain a loan, finding reliable credit repair help that won't cost you an arm and a leg can be a tough process. Do you pay to have someone help you restore your credit, or just pay the higher interest rate and not go through all the trouble? What if you have bad credit and can't get approved for a loan - is there anything a credit repair consultant can really do?

There are many issues to consider when seeking credit report help. Price is obviously one of them, but the other thing to consider is, are they really able to help you. The fact of the matter is there is nothing that a credit counselor can do that you can't do completely on your own.

What they may be able to do is help you work faster. Credit counselors know exactly what to do in order to make the biggest improvements to your credit score the fastest. If, however you have a little bit of time during your evening and weekends to work on fixing your credit report yourself, it doesn't take much effort at all and it could save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.

With a "do-it-yourself" attitude, you can just as easily increase your credit score almost immediately. It is just a matter of knowing how your credit score is calculated and what actionable items will have the biggest impact on improving your rating. For example, one of the biggest factors is to reduce your available credit-to-debt ratio. With just a few phone calls, you can instantly improve this ratio and dramatically increase your score.

It's important to also not waste your time on tactics and strategies that are out dated and no longer work. So as you are doing your research on how to improve your credit, be sure to check the facts. For example, consumers with a poor credit history used to be able to "piggyback" on good-creditworthy consumers in order to instantly boost their rating. However, this practice became overly abused and the Fair Isaac Corp sealed up this loophole. As a result, the credit repair tips that recommend piggybacking as a strategy to make some quick changes are not actually helping.

You can find all the credit repair help you need online, without having to hire expensive attorneys or counselors. It is just a matter of finding accurate information that actually works, and having a little bit of time and organizational skills to make those changes. It is by no means hard work or difficult concepts. It is just a matter of understanding how the FICO score is calculated. Then you can use that information to your advantage.

Take the first and easiest step in repairing your credit right now. Get your credit fix in less than 45 seconds and watch your future start to change today. Discover how to rebuild credit

How to Distress Furniture - Step by Step Guide

For a unique look, many homeowners are mixing distressed furniture with current modern styles.

Before you go throwing away your old dining room or bedroom sets, reconsider by refinishing it. Distressed furniture can be very expensive to buy so why not create it yourself with a little imagination and some TLC. This step by step guide will give you some helpful tips that the pros use when distressing furniture.

1. Sand: Sand down the finish on your piece so the primer/paint has something to adhere to. Use medium/fine grit sandpaper for this.

2. Rough up surface: Take a few tools (hammer, screw driver, chain, etc.) and rough up the surface of the piece. This is left up to your discretion of how distressed you want to make the furniture. The more you rough up the surface the more aged the piece appears.

3.Prime: Use a good quality white primer and give the piece of furniture a thin coat. After the piece has dried, follow up with a light sanding.

4. Top coat: Pick a top coat that complements the room. If you want to stay neutral, then go with whites/off whites. Apply two even coats of this top coat. Sometimes, homeowners will request a crackle finish in which the top coat appears as if the paint has dried and is starting to chip away. For a crackle finish read the steps below:

a. Follow steps 1-3.

b. Optional Base coat: Get Creative!! If you do not want the piece to show white crackle from primer coat, then now is the time to be creative. You can apply a different base coat which will show behind the top coat when the crackle takes effect.

c. Apply crackle glaze where you want the top coat to crackle. Allow to dry according to directions on package. This is usually a clear glaze sold at your local home center.

d. Top Coat: Apply top coat evenly (try not to over brush which may cause paint to drag). This top coat should be a different shade then the primer/base coat to make the crackle stand out.

e. Continue the follow steps below.

5. Optional Glaze coat: After the piece has thoroughly dried, apply a glaze over the entire piece. This step is optional but recommended. This glaze (usually dark brown/grey) when applied, highlights all of the roughed up areas (step 2) and really brings out the details in the piece. The best way to apply the glaze, is with a brush and then wipe off the excess with a rag. Wipe with even pressure (in one direction).

6. Apply a seal coat: Water based Poly works good for this. Apply 2-3 thin coats of this product according to the manufacturer's recommendation and do not forget to sand in between coats. This step will protect all of your hard work.

Now step back and enjoy your newly antiqued furniture. You will be amazed at the results and how quick and easy you have changed the look of your room. Take your time & most importantly be creative with this!!

Create an Exotic Look With European Bathroom Vanities

If you are looking for a simple and inexpensive way to add some excitement to your bathroom, or if you are a contractor looking for ideas for a client, you may want to look into European bathroom vanities. The vanity is a main focal point to decorate around. European vanities give you an exciting element to work with when decorating, building, or remodeling a bathroom. These vanities come in multiple styles, here we will look at the four most common.

Traditional

The traditional European bathroom vanities are made of hardwoods. These solid woods can be either Cherry, Oak, Teak, or Redwood. This traditional style usually goes well with a country look or an old school cozy setting. These vanities go well with other styles and are easy to decorate around or to incorporate in existing designs.

Classic

The classic European vanity uses the rich, elegant look of marble to pull off a beautifully exotic look. Classic cabinetry showcases dark wood including mahogany or cherry. Antique accessories accent this look, as do antique handles and faucets. These vanities are often stand alone pieces of furniture that would look great in any room, although they logically belong in the bathroom.

Shaker

This style's beauty is in its simplicity. European shaker style bathroom vanities are lacking ornamental detailing, but they do not need the addition of accents to make them beautiful. Usually made of pine or other light colored woods with a plain white sink these cabinets are gorgeous additions to any bathroom.

Modern

The modern European vanity ties together the sleek look of metal, stone, glass, stainless steel, and other materials not usually seen in the other styles listed. The vanity is given a new, sleek look that adds beauty as well as a high tech look. Often these pieces offer a smooth surface and smooth doors without knobs or handles.

There are many different styles of European vanities available, these are just a few of the most common. Whatever style you choose, a new European bathroom vanity brings excitement and beauty with it to your home. Matching your new vanity to the rest of your bathroom decor so that it compliments your home's beauty can be an exciting and rewarding task.

You owe it to yourself to get a bathroom vanity. What type will match your home? Looking for a corner bathroom vanity? Visit http://www.bathroomvanitybuzz.com for more ideas

How To Perform Roof Repair

If you are a person who has ever considered performing roof repair, please read this article. You can rest easy knowing that it takes just a little experience and some tools and an average house can be done without any problem.

To learn how to perform roof repair on an asphalt or metal roof takes just a few common tools and a pair of shoes with flat soles. The flat soles will do less damage than those that have heels after you walk on your roof. Make sure before you get on the roof that it is safe to walk on. If you have rotten wood because of a leaky roof, it is possible a rotten board or joist could break when you put your weight on it. Also if you see that the damage is extensive you may want to consider full replacement, because at that point it would be cheaper to replace than to repair.

To learn how to perform repair on an asphalt roof it takes a few tools you probably have already. A shovel is used to remove the shingles, a hammer is used for the roofing nails, and roofing cement can be used to glue bent shingles down and secure them. When you replace a broken or damaged shingle you will remove the row of shingles above it so you can get to the damaged one. One tip is to use the roofing cement to bond a torn shingle down to the roof and secure it with a roofing nail. Completely damaged shingles will need to be replaced. Try to use the same holes that the old shingle used when installing the new shingle in its place.

To learn how to repair a metal roofing is not quite as easy. You will need to identify what type of metal your roof is made of. Once you do, you will need to get a patch made of the same metal. The surface of the metal roof will need cleaning before you start your repair. You will need roofing cement, wire brushes, pliers, sandpaper, solder, soldering guns, flux, tin snips and gloves to handle sharp metal edges. After locating the damaged area you want to repair, you will need to cut a piece of new metal that is two inches larger than the area you are repairing. Then cut off the corners of this new patch with the tin snips. Bend the outer edges of the new metal under. Fold it under one half inch. Sand the folded parts and make them shiny. Now use the flux on the shiny areas of your new patch and the damaged area. Now, put the new patch down on the damaged area and hold it down with a weight, perhaps a brick or block. Use the solder and soldering gun and go along the edges of the new patch and seal down the new patch to the roof. The solder must melt and fill in the gaps between the new patch and the damaged roof. Go all the way around the new patch until you are done. Now, cut another patch larger than the damaged area. Coat the entire area of the soldered patch and press this second patch down on it. Apply another coat of cement over this. Do another patch like the last one if you want to make sure it does not leak. Cover it all again with roofing cement or roof coating and you are done.

One tip on how to perform roof repair on an aluminum roof is to use fiberglass patches instead of metal. Aluminum is not a metal to be soldered, so the fiberglass will have to be used instead. Do not worry, it works well on the aluminum roof and is probably easier than on other metals.

Choosing Interior Doors

When it's time to decorate - whether it's for a brand new home or redecorating the family manse, one thing that's often overlooked as a 'style choice' is the interior doors. After all, a bedroom door is a bedroom door, right?

And yet, the style of door that you choose can make a subtle, definitive difference throughout your home. I know that part of the reason that I'm drawn to old Victorian homes and triple-deckers is their beautiful hardwood doors in so many different styles. Most of today's new construction features bland, hollow-core interior doors with plain brass knobs - no character at all.

Picture your living and dining area divided by an elegant Victorian style double pocket sliding door. In places where a door that opens into or out of a room take up too much space, pocket interior doors are a lovely, elegant choice that recalls bygone years. Pocket doors slide into recessed 'pockets' fit into the wall on one or both sides of a doorway. They were often used in turn-of-the-century housing, and are a major selling point in many old homes. When choosing interior doors, why not look to the past for a choice that brings the understated elegance of the past to your home?

If you're choosing interior doors for a more contemporary scheme, you'll find them in cherry, poplar, oak, hickory or walnut, among other woods. Many home builders are opting to use materials other than wood, though, and glass or metal doors are also popular. The style of the door should complement the style of your decor, experts agree, and you'll find such a variety of styles that choosing interior doors for your home may be almost mind-boggling. The various standard styles include those with two to eight panels, raised or flat panels, and French door styles. Add to those cafe doors, bi-fold doors, bypass doors and pocket doors, and you'll have a wide variety of interior doors to choose from for your new home.

Here are a few tips from experts on choosing interior doors for your home:

You don't have to stick with just one type of door throughout your entire home. You can mix and match interior door styles or colors, just be sure to keep some elements the same. Use the same color, finish or basic styling to provide a consistency and flow.

Painted interior doors are popular as well as natural wood. Soft white works well with most decor, but black is becoming a popular choice because the deep color gives the doorway more 'presence' - a deeper and wider appearance.

When choosing interior doors, keep in mind the overall dimensions of the room in which they'll be installed. An enormous mullioned sliding glass door may be beautiful, but will it overwhelm a small sitting room?

The most important factor in choosing interior doors, though, is your preference. Shop around, find a look and a style that you like in a price range that suits your budget, and then go for it. See what a difference changing such a subtle design accent can make throughout your home.

Matthew Anthony contributes to home improvement sites such as doors and blinds.

Horizontal Or Vertical Drywall Application

Let's start with the basic eight-foot sheet of drywall. Most drywall contractors apply drywall horizontally however I have seen some contractors working with metal stud framing install 10 foot sheets of drywall vertically.

The reasons for installing the 10 foot sheets of drywall up and down or vertically in this situation are quite simple. There is no structural strength required in these walls because they are simply partitions dividing rooms and usually the drywall only needs to be finished up to 9 feet. This is the only time I have seen drywall ran vertically.

In a wood framed house the drywall actually adds a little sheer value to the home itself.

The manufacturer suggests installing eight-foot sheets of drywall horizontally. The horizontal application of drywall means installing the 4 foot side of the drywall up and down and the eight-foot side of the drywall side to side.

What is the reason for installing the 4 x 8 sheets horizontally?

When it comes to finishing the drywall the 4 foot seams that run up and down or vertical will not be as noticeable as a seam running up and down the entire wall. If you haven't read one of my last articles on eye level window setting then let me give you a brief eye level education.

A person 5'8" in height will be more apt to notice things between 4'6" off the ground and 6'6" off the ground. If we ran the drywall vertical there is a good chance the eyes would be able to pick up any finishing flaws in the drywall. Running the drywall horizontally will just put us a little out of range from the lower eye level of 4 foot six with our finish.

Another reason for installing the drywall horizontally is there is a good chance your eyes would be able to pick up four foot lines in the wall going from floor to ceiling quite easily. On older homes you will see lines in the ceilings about every 24 inches. This is because the plaster or drywall ceilings is starting to sag in between the ceiling joist.

These lines are difficult to do anything about once the drywall is finished. The only alternative you would have is to remove the ceiling and re-drywall and finish it.

Drywall ran vertically will tend to crack easier than staggered drywall ran horizontally. The four foot section of drywall is stronger than the 8 foot section. If you stagger your drywall breaks every four feet this will increase the strength of your wall as well.

Try not to break the drywall at any door openings. The door openings seem to crack easily from the corners working their way towards the ceiling. Let the drywall run over the doorway and then cut the doorway out leaving the rough door opening during wallboard installation.

If you have ever seen a house that was drywalled by a professional crew the waste is unbelievable. The reason for this is simply that the drywall contractor does not want to come back and patch cracks in the walls three or four years after he is done. It can be quite labor intensive installing scrap pieces of drywall versus using larger sheets to cover the same area.

Don't forget and always remember that. Horizontal installation of drywall is recommended by the manufacturer.

One thing is certain...no traffic=no sales.

This is a given in the internet marketing world.

How does one go about getting the all important traffic to that great looking website?

There are many ways for one to explore. Here are a just a few.

1. PPC...the ever elusive and enticing pay per click advertising. One simply pays for website traffic. This can be a good way for some, however, for most average internet marketers, it may lead to more money out of the pocket than in.

The inner workings of the internet may seem complicated to most; however, it is not an unattainable goal to reach the top positions of Google, Yahoo and MSN.

2. The hiring of an SEO|SEM company may be appealing to some. This is a very good way to achieve the needed traffic to the website. Caution is the dictator here. One must be certain that the SEO|SEM company hired will perform the job as stated. Many so-called internet marketing search engine optimization companies are in business to simply take money...and deliver nothing for it. Buyer beware.

3. Traffic Exchanges...Here the individual simply joins the traffic exchange, and either surfs for credits, or in some cases buys credits...hits...to the website. Effective marketing technique; however, the person must be aware that time is required here. Time to pursue the traffic exchanges properly and learn the different techniques associated with the effective use of surfing.

4. Posting to forums...This is a highly effective way for the individual to obtain link popularity and exposure for the website in question. Here again, time is the issue. Setting up a proper and consistent routine of posting to forums requires time and effort. There are no quick fixes on the internet...even though many scam artists will sing a different tune just to separate the individual from their money.

5. Writing press releases...This is one of the most powerful tools that the internet marketer has before him today. Writing an effective press release is the sure-fire way to get a website up on the searches quickly. Here again, this requires consistent effort, a flair and love of writing...and self discipline.

7. Writing for ezines...Writing for ezines...or online magazines is a very productive way for the marketer to get outstanding results. Ezines pull significant weight on the internet. This process again...requires self discipline...desire...and a flair for the written word.

The aforementioned techniques are all credible and reliable ways to obtain top positions on the search engines or the internet today. Number one rule here: there are NO QUICK FIXES...only credible, reliable, business building tools to obtain notoriety on the internet.

Butch Hamilton is an SEO|SEM Specialist. He also is a Veretkk trainer. Living on the internet has become a way of life...a succesful way of life. His talents for obtaining top positions on the search engines have led him to the point in his life where he has always wanted to be.

Says Mr. Hamilton, "Writing has always been my passion. Gone are the days when I placed blatant ads on the internet for exposure. I have found my life's work in writing articles.

Reliable and credible information is what the internet is all about to Butch Hamilton. His experience as a self employed building contractor...steel fabrication...has led him on an incredible journey.

He now resides in his beautiful home in Texas with his wife. Writing is the passion behind his successful promoting ability on the net.

Ceramic Tile Over Linoleum

Ceramic tile installation over many materials will work just fine. But will ceramic tile over linoleum work? That's a good question and the answer is ... it depends!

Probably the most important step in a successful tile installation project is preparing the backing - the surface over which the tile will be installed. Save time and money by properly preparing the backing so that's it's solid and of the right material. Backings must be flat, solid, smooth and clean. Install tile over a springy surface and you'll have a failure. Any movement will produce cracking of the grout and maybe even cracked tiles.

You can install tile over many surfaces including linoleum or vinyl. Tile is also installed often over old tile, plywood, brick, wall board and cement board. As long as the surface is flat, solid, smooth and clean you can use it as a backer. Now the surface may require proper preparation and the proper adhesive. Your tile supplier can help with these decisions.

Ceramic tile over vinyl works if the backing is smooth, clean and tightly in place. Any movement of the flooring will likely crack the grout. Certain types of vinyl flooring are cushioned so that they will flex. These floors will not work because of the movement. A cushioned floor should be covered with plywood or cement board. You could also remove the flooring and eliminate that layer.

Be careful when removing old resilient flooring. Until 1986, many floors contained asbestos, which is a health hazard if fibers are released into the air. The only way to know whether this flooring contains asbestos is to have it tested. The best way is to just assume older floors contain asbestos. Don't sand the floor. Usually the best approach is to tile over the floor. If the floor is loose, just cover it with exterior plywood.

Installing ceramic tile over linoleum will work great with the proper preparation and adhesives. Once you have the right base, installation is just like any other base. It's often the best way to cover older resilient floors.

Ten Reasons to Use a Retractable Insect Screening Solution

For those who live in climates with aggressive mosquito seasons, or tropical countries such as Panama where there are mosquitos year-round pest- there is a tremendous need for insect screening for your doors and windows, at least for those who want to open their windows and actually enjoy the weather where they live.

For these situations a screening solution is required. There are many options for insect screening, with static screening in wide use, the retractable screening is gaining popularity for its versatility. Here are ten reasons to acquire a retractable door or window.

10. There When You Need It, Not When You Do Not.
This is the reason to use any retractable screening. The door or window screen disappears into a housing when not in use.

9. Rust-proof / Easy Cleaning.
Good insect screens are made from rust proof materials, making it ideal for humid climates. In fact, the only part of a quality bug solution that should rust is the magnet. This inability to rust is key as it makes your retractable product easy to clean. Compare to a static screening solution which usually has metal hooks and and a wood frame and the difference is night and day.

8. Durability - You can walk into it..
It seems everyone with a screen door or window bumps into or crashes into one at least once in their life. And this is not to say anything about Pets and their mad dashes outside the house. In this event a traditional static screen would usually rip from its fittings, while many retractable screening options survive the crash as the magnet de-attaches with sufficient pressure, opening the door or window solution, thus never allowing for any rip or serious damage to the product.

7. Detail Oriented
Most established screen door and window screen companies are detail oriented and will take great pride in making in improving their product on a yearly basis. From product paint finishes, to the quality of the spring mechanisms, to the design options, to amazingly how every single piece of the product matches color-wise and has an exact purpose. There is an attention to detail and aesthetic in any retractable product, that might not be present in low end static screening.

6. Sleek Design.
Many retractable screening solutions are minimalistic, designed to perform a function with the least bulk possible. The end result is when not in use, you should not know you have a screening solution.

5. Custom Color Matching
Most retractable insect and solar screen companies offer a variety of colors, to allow for it to match with your home door or window frame. Some companies even allow for custom color matching with a paint chip or a color code, and even the possibility of a wood-stained finish.

4. Professional Installation
Retractable screening can be a tricky product to install, particular due to obstructions and the lack of level in most home construction. Any reputable retractable company will offer professional installation, or may even require it, to make sure you get a proper, working insect free solution.

3. Design Friendly
Static screens are considered by most to be unsightly. This is the reason many people in mosquito-laden areas do not put up an insect screening solution, and as such do not put to use a large portion of their homes. The ability of a retractable screen to disappear combined with their attractive design make for a very design friendly product which people should be proud to have in their home.

2. Product Guarantees
Guarantees vary by company, some give Limited Lifetime Guarantees and others on a lesser scale. But in general, most retractable products are engineered and constructed to work and last and thus manufacturers often give servicing and warranties. This is something you won't find in local shop made static screening options.

1. Nobody Likes Insects
From the buzz in your ear little NoSeeUms to the their bigger bloodsucking, itchy mark causing cousins- nobody likes bugs! Retractable screens seal them out when you need to use your patio, terrace or simply want to bring in the cool afternoon breeze. There is simply no better reason to own a screen door or window.

Trees are both beneficial and harmful to your pond. Trees provide shade that will be good for your pond but they will also add to debris such as branches and leaves or fallen fruit The key is to strike a balance between the two.

Shrubs will also play a role in maintaining unity between the tall trees and the low pond. They will create continuity from your pond to the trees. You may also add some flowers to provide some color. Be sure to cut the off the old blossoms to prevent debris that can make your area unsightly.

Water plants are a must for ponds and should be added immediately after your pond has been finished. Use similar colored plants as their surroundings to create some balance and harmony between the two. Be creative and do some research on different kinds of water plants to use.

A finishing touch for a pond is adding some fish. Add them after everything else has been finished. Always select appropriate species of fish that will not out-grow the size of your pond.

Home Remodeling Stair Lighting Help

Walking up and down the stairs in the dark could become a safety issue. If the stairs in the house are not that old, there should be a light switch at the top and a light switch at the bottom of the stairway. This is a three way switch and is designed to allow you to turn the stair lighting on as you walk up the stairs and then turn the stair lighting off, once you've safely reached the top of the stairway. And vice versa as she walked down the stairs.

If you don't have a light switch, there are motion sensor lights that are battery operated and can be installed easily in the stairway. These lights can provide you with peace of mind, while protecting your family from accidents.

Stairway accidents are nothing to joke about, I lived in a two-story house with four other people and was the last one to fall down the stairway. None of us got seriously injured and the stairway was built to meet local building codes and was inspected by a building and safety inspector. The stairs were built correctly and the stair lighting was no problem, but people still fell down the stairway and it always happens in the evening.

During the day time there were two windows that let plenty of light into the stairway and in the evening the stairway became quite dark, rarely was the stair lightning ever turned on. This could have been outright laziness but nevertheless, it was rarely used and eventually became a safety issue.

Lighting your stairway might not end all of your problems but it can and some of your problems. There are plenty of stair lighting systems available on the market today and some of the battery operated stair lighting systems can be installed by most homeowners.

Think safety always and do your best to solve your stair lighting problems as soon as possible to prevent injuries or accidents.

Dangers of Walking on a House Roof

Here's some things to think about before walking on the roof of a house. If you slip and fall off the roof you could get hurt seriously. For your own safety if you have no experience walking on a roof use extreme caution. I would even suggest using a ladder and moving the latter around the perimeter of the house if you are inspecting the roof for damage.

Here's some things to keep in mind before walking on a house roof.

1. If the building is above two stories hire a contractor especially if you think the roof has building damage.

2. If the roof is too steep stay off. This could be extremely hazardous to your health.

3. If the roof is severely damaged and has loose shingles or tiles, this could create a safety hazard as you slip on one of these loose shingles and possibly fall off the roof.

4. You should stay off the roof at all costs if there is snow or ice. Ice obviously is extremely slippery and would be difficult to walk on. The difficulty would be increased if the roof has a steep slope.

5. Now last but not least if the roof is wet you should avoid walking on it until it is dry. I have been on wet roofs before and personally slipped myself losing my balance but not falling off of the roof.

Climbing up on a roof and walking around is not child's play and should be left to an experienced professional . If you feel comfortable walking around on any roof please use caution. If you slip in the middle of the roof there is a good chance you will be able to regain your balance or have time to stop yourself before falling off.

I would suggest using caution near the edges of the roof. If the roof is too steep or you don't feel comfortable, why risk serious injury. Use common sense along with the proper ladders to ensure your safety and "Think before walking on a house roof."

In the Bathroom - 5 Ways That You Can Add Value to Your Home

While adding an additional bathroom to your home is estimated to add over 100% of the price of that addition to the value of your home, remodeling your bathroom can be just as profitable - but at a lower cost to you. The housing market is fierce right now, with plummeting housing prices, but adding valuable touches can make your house the one that gets the offer.

Value Adding Way #1

One of the easiest ways to remodel your bathroom is to look for modern bathroom vanities. These vanities are a great way to start off any remodel by adding a touch of theme to your design plans. Because the vanity will take up a large portion of the bathroom itself, it will become the focal point of the room. Thus, by adding something with the modern, sleek lines, you will be well on your way to a bathroom that's adding value to the sale of your home with modern appeal.

Value Adding Way #2

Another simple way to add value to your home is to look at the modern vessel sinks. These sinks protrude from the top of the bathroom counter, giving a more pronounced appeal to the room as well as a contemporary finish. Instead of the same old boring sink, you can have a dramatic basin. And when your buyer is interested in having the best of the best, they're also willing to pay for it.

Value Adding Way #3

Changing your bathroom faucet is another simple way to add value to a home that's up for sale. If you're not sure if you can afford a completely new vanity, this is an excellent way to make sure that you're bring a touch of the modern times to the bathroom - just without the price. You can even change the levers on the sink to match the faucet to complete the overall look and create an attractive and finished look.

Value Adding Way #4

Vanity cabinets allow for more storage and space in an already small bathroom. When you're trying to sell your home, they can be an appealing feature that is sure to win over an undecided buyer - and even add value to the sale. By coordinating them with your new bathroom vanity and faucet, you have completed the bathroom's modern appearance.

Value Adding Way #5

One of the more expensive ways to add value to your home is to add something larger to the bathroom - a whirlpool, a set of beautiful bathroom mirrors, or perhaps an attractive shower design. When you start to separate your home from the others on the block, you'll not only add value, but you'll also be able to entice the undecided home buyer - after all, you have something that no one else does.

While you might not think that the bathroom is the best place to renovate, you may want to reconsider. Not only does remodeling your bathroom add value to your home and increase its appeal to those that are looking to buy, but it can generally be done in a way that doesn't cost you a lot of money.

How to Choose an Effective Under Counter Water Filter

An under counter water filter can be an expensive purchase. I've seen under counter water filters that cost as much as $800. But, I've also seen products that sell for as little as $143.98. What's the difference?

The product that sells for nearly $800 is made by a reputable water purification company, let's call "All Things Pure". If the name brings to mind bubbling springs and fields full of wild flowers, that's what the marketers were hoping for.

The company designs reverse osmosis systems for industries, businesses and homeowners. But, you have to remember to compare "apples to apples" when you're shopping for under counter water filters.

The $800 model was strictly designed for homeowners serviced by a public supplier. Unless you have a private well or other private source, you fit into that category.

The problems with publicly treated waters include:

* Chlorine, used by the facilities to disinfect and control algae growth in the pipelines. It causes digestive disorders and other health problems.

* THMs or trihalomethanes and other byproducts of chemical disinfection. They cause cancer.

* VOCs or volatile organic compounds include chemicals such as perchlorate that causes thyroid problems, metabolic disorders and developmental problems in children. These chemicals have yet to be regulated by the EPA or other government agencies. They are common surface and groundwater pollutants.

* Lead, a naturally occurring heavy metal, used to line pipes and solder joints together until governments recently banned its use. Chlorine is so caustic that it dissolves lead and it ends up in public drinking water supplies. It causes a long list of health problems, but is most hazardous to children.

* Cysts, parasites that cause varying degrees of illness, ranging from mild flu-like symptoms to fatalities. Resistant to chlorine and other chemical disinfectants, they may be present in publicly treated or bottled waters.

Under counter water filters that remove all of these things are available, but to get one from the All Things Pure company, you have to pay $800, simply because they include a reverse osmosis step, which has been replaced by submicron particle filtration.

An under counter water filter that includes submicron particle filtration can be purchased for as little as $143.98. The system has the necessary steps to remove all of the contaminants listed above.

So, it's not necessary to pay $800 for under counter water filters and I don't think that anyone should have to. Because of the importance of drinking something pure, I believe that everyone should be able to afford to effectively filter their water. Some companies obviously agree with me.

But, companies like All Things Pure will try to convince you that their under counter water filters are better than all the rest. Don't buy into their advertising hype. Reverse osmosis is completely unnecessary and simply impractical.

With the right under counter water filter, families can save the thousands of dollars per year that they would have spent buying bottled waters and be safer in the long run. So, make the right choice for your family, today.

Bob Goodhand is an advocate for home and personal water purification systems to protect and promote healthy living. Visit his site at http://natural-purified-water.com/ to discover the drinking water filters that Bob recommends.

Finding Something You Don't Like About Yourself - Creating Habits

Finding something you don't like about yourself is usually very easy for most people. Most of the time you don't even have to ask your family or friends because you have heard them complain about the same thing for years. How many times have you heard someone mention, I need to lose weight?

Here's a list of things people don't like about themselves. If you're one of those people that has a hard time finding something wrong with yourself, you could always ask one of your friends for some suggestions. I'm sure they would like that.

1. The need to lose weight. This of course is one of the worst problems with Americans. Most people need to lose weight and let's not forget there are some people that need to gain weight.

2. The need to stop gambling. As more Indian reservations are allowed to build gambling casinos and of course as the Internet gambling gets larger, I've noticed some people with gambling problems.

3. The need to stop drinking alcohol. The abuse of alcohol has been going on for many years. These people have an excuse for why they drink and most of the time it doesn't make sense.

4. The need to stop smoking. This could be one of the most difficult things I've ever seen my friends and family deal with.

5. The need to stop excessive behaviors. For example, gossiping, cruelty, bullying, lying, cheating, stealing, partying etc. You get the idea.

6. Don't forget the dreaded shopaholic. Most shopaholic's seem to have large credit card debt and can't seem to stop this vicious circle of buying and owing money to their creditors.

7. Working long hours or the workaholic. Sometimes this is a necessity but I would suggest that you change your lifestyle if possible. Reevaluate your reasons for working so hard.

8. Religious fundamentalists. People that spend too much time at their place of worship and soon find themselves feeling guilty if they're not doing something spiritual.

9. The need to be on time. This would include people that have problems giving themselves enough time to get ready for work or school.

10. The need to stop doing drugs. I thought by now, approaching my 50s, that drugs would no longer be a problem in the United States, but it is. It's one of the most damaging things people can do to their lives.

There are plenty of things that people would like to stop doing or start doing. If you're a smoker and you seem to shop excessively near the casinos, I would advise you to start with something small and work your way up to the big stuff.

What are you going to change today about your life? Make a list of things that you're not happy with about your life and start making the changes today that you need to create the life you deserve and desire.

Pick Up That Hammer - Contractor Advice

I often encounter people who believe that carpenters were born carpenters and plumbers were born plumbers. Regardless of my encouragement, there are many folks who don't think they have the ability to build their own home.

I always give them all the same talk. We as human beings have the ability to learn new things and expand our horizons. If this weren't true, none of us would be able to walk, talk, drive a car, or even tie our shoes.

As a parent, I have helped my children through some of the most repetitious acts of learning. As a teacher and a mentor, I have taught people how to ride horses, program computers, speak Spanish, build houses, peak satellites, hold a newborn baby, raise a garden, the list goes on and on.

My point is that I have watched every type of person learn in different ways. I have noticed that we all have different levels of intellect. Some people are sharp as a tack and others are really quite thick. The truth that I have learned about most things in life is that a person with average intelligence has everything he or she needs to get by and even succeed with flying colors. Even those with fairly low intelligence have adequate learning abilities to do just fine.

So when people tell me that they aren't smart enough to build their own house, I just have to remind them that they are probably smart enough to do much more than just build houses. Some of the most intimidating projects in building a new house can be figured out with a little concentration. Electricity and Plumbing scare some homeowners into hiring the work done, when in truth, anybody can do those things.

I see all around me, examples of able-bodied people that choose to hire contractors to do work for them. This is just fine if the people have more money than time. If however, they have more time than money, they could really benefit from doing their own labor and saving thousands of dollars. In most cases the money saved by doing ones own labor translates into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

That's worth learning how to do something new. Anything in this world that will save us so much money and time over the long run is definitely something valuable to know.

Unfortunately, the majority of homeowners don't see it that way at all. To them it's acceptable to pay someone else to do all the work even if it means they will end up working almost a decade of their work life to make nothing but mortgage interest payments.

To me it's simple, work for three hours a day after work for one year to build my own house, or work for eight hours a day at a job for ten years to pay the interest on hired labor. If more of us could see the reality of hired labor, we would be more likely to make better choices.

I strongly believe that we are intelligent beings made in the likeness of fully intelligent beings. We have power to learn and overcome so that we can find happiness. Sometimes we all need to be reminded of that.

Mythbusters: You Can Only Get a Custom Home by Building One

I’ve built three homes from scratch. One was four bedrooms, three baths at around 3000 square feet. Another was five bedrooms, four baths at 3600 square feet. Finally, I bought a lot in the mountains and built a cabin with two bedrooms and two baths. In each case, I chose the lot, exposure, and home. They were builder’s lots and I chose the design from existing models with custom features. The process was both exciting and frustrating.

The exciting aspect is the ability to control your outcome. By picking the lot, exterior, and interior elements, it’s truly a custom experience. We got to work with interior decorators and made all the hard decisions. The inside would include all the wall colors and wallpapers, flooring along with carpet and tile, cabinetry throughout, kitchen design, appliances, window treatment, lighting fixtures, and placements. Also, we chose the countertop materials for the kitchen and bathrooms, surround sound built-ins, and numerous other conveniences. Outside, we installed pools, spas and decking, in the case of the cabin. Rockwork, grass, bushes, trees, and even a putting green were just some of our creations. We got to watch all of it come together over many months of supervision and anticipation. Finally, each one emerged and we got to live in our respective dream homes.

With all that we did, you might be envious of our good fortune that allowed us this amazing opportunity three times over. You would be right, but there were many problems we failed to account for. To start with, we had to choose a lot in subdivisions that weren’t built yet. By choosing a lot, we committed to the location. Unfortunately, without the other home built yet, we were at the mercy of whatever came after us. If the homes around us ended up blocking the view we envisioned, there was nothing we could do about it. If they decided to plant huge trees, erect tall play sets, or other obstructions, that was their choice, but one we had to live with.

This occurred in every case to varying degrees and, had we known, we might have planned differently. For example, we might have picked a lot among homes already built and established. We also had to put up with years of construction noise, debris, and inconvenience dealing with workers and their vehicles. In retrospect, we probably would have done things a lot differently.

You see, we were misled. We thought the only way to customize a home is to buy one from scratch. What we failed to comprehend is that anyone can buy an existing home, gut it if needed, and make whatever changes are required. New flooring, cabinets, wall and window treatment, lighting, and so forth, can be changed for a price. The advantage of this approach is: (a) you still choose your lot, (b) you know everything around you and what to expect, (c) you are spared the aggravation of the construction process, (d) you still can remake the interior or exterior, and (e) you can bargain on the price.

Don’t get me wrong: we loved the three homes we built. But if we had waited, we could have gotten the same homes in the same subdivisions after they were completed, at a later date, and might not have chosen the same locations. So learn from our experience and consider all these options. I know we are, as we decide where our next home will be. I can honestly say, it won’t be built from scratch, but it will still end up being exactly what we want. So, do you need to build a custom home to get one? Myth busted!

A Guide to Platform Bed Plans

Do you want to try your hand at building a platform bed? For those of you who dont yet know what a platform bed is, its an exciting, old way of sleeping that incorporates a simple, elegant frame and a single mattress. Its lines have been used in Europe, Scandinavia, and Japan for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Platform beds can be made of wood or metal. If youre looking to build a platform bed, youre probably thinking about wood.

Platform beds can be extremely simple. The extremely simple platform beds have no headboard or footboard, and certainly no canopy. They incorporate slats, which, in effect, replace the need for a box spring, since, because they are sturdy yet somehow slightly flexible, support the single mattress on top. The result is that you get a good nights sleep, are very comfortable, and yet dont end up with back pains or numb muscles in the morning.

Its ever better for your back than sleeping on the floor. And now, with the rapid proliferation of memory foam, your platform bed can be even more comfortable and healthy. Memory foam is a gel-like polymer that accepts your shapes and bones, but supports it fully. (It was first used in hospitals, and is now a popular mattress and pillow material.)

Platform bed plans can be more complex too; you can add headboards, footboards, canopies, even extra flourishes and storage units. You can build the storage units as one with the bed frame, or you can create rolling drawers supported by castors, so that the drawers are modifiable and easily maneuverable throughout your bedroom.

Its not the most difficult job in the world for a handyperson. If you want to build a platform bed, you can order platform bed plans from any of a number of plans retailers. Woodworking clubs, furniture enthusiast groups, and other organizations can give or sell you plans. You can also buy plans online.

How to Do Your Own Gutter Installation

Have you decided that you are tired of the damage that is being done to your home and yard by rain waters? If so, you need to consider gutter installation to help preserve the integrity of your home as well as your landscaping. Gutters can reduce the amount of damage or wear that you will see over time as a result of rain waters. Luckily, you can install your own rain gutters if you don't want to pay for a professional to do it for you.

When you decide that you want to take on gutter installation on your own, you should know that you are going to need six to eight hours for proper installation. In addition, you will need to budget about two to six dollars per linear foot, though if you choose to go with copper gutters you will be looking at more than $20 per linear foot.

Gutter installation is actually quite simple. The first thing you will need to do is measure the amount of actual gutters that you will need. When you have purchased your gutters and the necessary hardware you will then want to create layout lines with a chalking line to be sure that your gutters are straight and even so they don't take away from the appearance of the home. After you do this you will need to attach the fascia brackets, which will hold the gutters on your home without wearing on the wood unnecessarily.

After attached the brackets you will need to saw the gutters to size, attach all end caps, cut the downspout holes, and then install the gutter onto the home. You may want to create a strip miter joint at the corner of the home. Last but not least you will connect the downspout to the gutter, and you're done! This really is a very straight forward process so long as you have the time and the patience to get the job done.

When We Choose Misery Over Happiness

I am not one to feel sorry for most people. They seem to have a unique ability to cause themselves the most damage during certain parts of their lives. I have met some pretty self destructive people in my life. Being raised by a mother that lived in misery and love.

My mother had a difficult childhood. It seemed as if every corner she turned there was a obstacle either right in front of here or waiting just around the corner. Her father died when she was 12 year old. He was a farm laborer and didn't make much money. In other words they were poor...... She got sent to live with a few foster families and according to her she was molested by one of the fathers she lived with.

Soon her older sister invited her to live with her. My aunt was married to the owner of a pottery business and had 2 children about 10 years younger than my mother. My aunt soon realized she had a live in baby sitter that allowed her to stay out drinking most of the day.

My Uncle was what you would call a drunk back then, now we call these people alcoholics. Well any way I think you are starting to get a picture of my mothers life up to this point. It is probably safe to assume that this isn't the ideal life for a young woman.

The next event to happen in my moms life was for my uncle to fall in the shower one night after tying one on that night. He died soon after but my aunt seemed to make a another good choice and ended up marring the owner of the bar that they spent most of their time in.
The Grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for. Allan K. Chalmers

By this time my mom was in High School and met my future father. It wasn't exactly a marriage made in heaven. My dad was always an easy going man. He seemed to let most stuff go in one ear and out the other.

As you guessed it they had a few children. Nice one Dad and Mom. According to the books I have read on Angelic beings. People that believe in the after life and angels. They tell me I had a choice and was able to choose my parents....... What was I thinking...... I should have choose someone with some money and a couple of parents that were deeply in love .

How did I end up here in this situation.

I ended up loving my parents like most of us. They seemed to be doing the best that they could possibly do raising me, my bother and my sister. My mom and dad ended up getting a divorce and I went to live with my father.

My Father is remarried to a wonderful woman that seems to bring him a lot of happiness.
I haven't seen my mother for a while now. She lives with a life of excuses and misery. Her childhood was not the greatest but that doesn't give her the right to bring misery into other peoples lives. She has made a conscious choice to live what seems to be a painful life. Maybe her choices in life have made me choose happiness over misery.

I have always wondered what it is that motivates someone to live a life of true unhappiness when it takes the same amount of energy to live a life of joy. Life is meant to be full of joy and happiness so start today by making the right choices to live a fulfilling life of happiness.

Financing Your Home Remodeling Project

Many of us buy a home not because it is in perfect condition, but because it meets our standards and there are a lot of great things that we can do to improve it to our tastes. Of course, when you get into home remodeling you are looking at things that will cost you money, perhaps a lot of money. While you may have a lot of great ideas about how you can improve your home, do you know how you are going to finance the project?

How You Can Finance Your Project

Probably the best way to finance your home remodeling ideas is to pay for them from your savings. This is a great way to pay for things because you do not have to pay any interest and you know that you have the money on hand to get things done right the first time. Of course, many of us do not have the type of money that is needed just sitting in their savings account, so this is not an option for everyone. If you don't just have the money sitting in your bank, do you have money in stocks that you could cash out? If not, there is no need to worry there are still options.

Another option is to go to your family and ask to borrow the money. If you have someone in your family that is willing to help you invest in the improvement of your home you may find that this is a viable option. Be sure to offer to pay interest, as this will allow someone to get something back for loaning you the money. Of course, most experts would advise against borrowing money from someone that you know. The reason for this is that when you borrow money it can complicate your relationship and cause problems in the future. If you are borrowing money from a friend or family member you should get all of the details on paper and you should also be sure that you can actually pay off the loan.

If you don't have the money in investments or money in your bank accounts the best option is to borrow the money from the bank or a lender. Home improvement loans are a great option because they will give you the money you need for less in interest than you might think. Home improvement loans can be structured in many different ways so you can be sure to get a loan that will be affordable to you while you remodel your home. These loans can be sought in many different amounts, allowing you to take on the home remodeling project on just about any scale.

Tips for Decorating Small Kitchens

Having a small kitchen can be a nightmare. After all, the last place you want to feel cramped is in the kitchen. With very little counter space or cabinetry, cooking your favorite meals can become quite the chore.

Fortunately, there are several steps you can take with decorating small kitchens that will give you a little more space while also helping you feel less cramped in the kitchen. First, you might want to consider replacing some of your base cabinets with roll out cabinetry. With roll out cabinets you can more easily reach all of the items that you have to store way in the back.

You can also improve your cabinet space by installing taller wall cabinets. If you install cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling, you will have more space for storage. If you want to add interest, you can stair step the cabinets instead. This will still give you more storage space.

While you are at it, you might want to consider putting glass fronts on the cabinets. By allowing the eye to move beyond the front of the cabinets, you create the illusion that the kitchen is larger. You should also consider using lighting in creative ways when decorating small kitchens, as adding under-the-counter lighting will make your space appear larger.

If counter space is your problem, you can free up more room by installing under-the-cabinet appliances or under-the-counter appliances such as can openers, microwaves, toasters, and spice racks. Simply finding ways to decorate small kitchens by getting things off of your counter will give you more room to work and to enjoy your small kitchen.

Worry-Free Home Additions

So you've had your architect-designed home addition approved for construction and are now ready to engage a builder to do the work. Putting on first floor home additions is for many people one of the largest single investments they will make, second only to the purchase of the house itself.
Using the right builder can make the difference between a smooth worry-free experience, and 12 months or more of pure stress. In this article, Paul Petrusma shows how, by selecting the right builder, you can maximise the success of your home improvement project while avoiding unnecessary headaches.

1.Stay in Control of your Budget
You will likely have been given a ballpark estimate of the building cost to use as the basis for your project budget. While this is generally a good starting point, each home renovation project is unique and you do not want to be stung with additional costs which were not included in the price. In other words, the devil is in the detail.

Obtain a Fixed-Price Quotation. The only way to stay in control of your budget is to insist on a detailed, fixed price Quotation from each Builder that you approach to do the work, a Quotation that specifies everything the Builder will take responsibility for. Read the Quotation document carefully. If it isn't listed, then it's not likely to be included. Who will pay for internal painting, inspection for hazardous materials (and removal if found), pest inspection, Council damage deposit, Construction Certificate, final inspection fees, etc? Insist that the builder be specific - for example include window frame colours (non-standard colours are often dearer). Some builders charge a small fee to produce a detailed fixed price Quotation; this is likely to be money well spent given the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your budget cost will not blow out.

Prime Cost allowances are typically included in a Quotation for items you will select yourself during construction, such as bathroom hardware. If you select an item more expensive than the allowance, you will be required to pay the balance. If, on the other hand, you select one that is cheaper than the allowance then you should receive a credit for the difference. For a meaningful price comparison between quotations, make sure you include the Prime Cost allowance.

Provisional Sums are allowances the Builder has included for works that could not be costed at this time because the scope of the work may not be clear until demolition works are done. It is a "best guess" by the Builder and you will typically be required to pay any amount over the allowance stated (or receive a credit if the actual cost is less than the allowance). If Provisional Sums vary immensely between quotes, ask the Builder why this is the case.

2.Minimise the Problem of Construction Delays & Poor Quality
Quality. First floor home additions are a specialised type of construction, employing different techniques and systems than those used for new home construction or ground floor extensions. Don't leave quality to chance. Here are some ideas:
Check your local Department of Fair Trading for the builder's rating
Find a builder who has won awards for their home addition projects
Speak to past clients or review client testimonials
Ask the Builder what quality control systems they utilise. For example, do they verify the measurements on the plans you provide in order to minimise potential construction problems?
Warranties. While warranties against deficient structural work is provided through NSW legislation, having "minor" defects repaired can be a more arduous process, particularly for problems discovered only after you take occupation of the new room(s). Make sure that your builder provides a minor defects warranty for at least 6 months after completion.

Construction Time. The maximum time to build should be written into the building contract. As a guide, expect a $300,000 addition to take up to 5 months to complete. If the contract duration is longer, you may be in for some unwelcome delays...

3.Address Construction Issues Before They Begin
Construction Supervisor. You will likely be allocated a Construction Supervisor who will oversee the trade contractors working on your project. The Supervisor's role is to ensure that construction times and quality are achieved, and that any concerns you may have during construction are heeded. Obtain a commitment that the Supervisor will attend your site on a daily basis during construction and will keep you fully informed on progress.

Emergency Contact Numbers. Make sure that the Builder has a 24/7 contact number in case of emergency during construction, such as storm damage. You should also be given back up contact numbers in case you are unable to reach your Construction Supervisor.

Protecting Your Belongings. Your roof area and parts of the ground floor will become a construction site. Most builders will not insure against damage to your home contents so it is advisable to remove fragile items such as chandeliers or antiques to avoid the risk of damage. You should also check with the builder as to the precautions to be taken to maintain property security.
